George Phillips opens up his extensive collection of indigenous art for the, Summer Show. An international traveler Phillips collection is an impressive and extensive collection of Indigenous Art featuring items Phillips collected from his extensive travels around the world. Plenty of spears, drums from Uganda, African sculpture, rugs, baskets and more to browse through.

"The Mysterious Mr Watson," is a fascinating collection or paintings Phillips purchased while teaching at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica circa 1969 to 1971. Mr S. Watson, a Rastafarian artist, who like all Rastas, believed he would one day be repatriated to Africa. According to Phillips, Watson, "was an individual who had to paint and did so on any surface he could find, paper, canvas, hardboard. The titles of his paintings indicated he was a moral man who sought justice for his people." Mr Watson works were apart of an exhibition of Rastafarian art that toured Germany, Switzerland and Denmark 1984 – 86.

The BAI "Summer Show" offers a wide variety of mixed media works. Stand out painting is "Friends In The Desert," a beautiful dreamy watercolor, by, Robert Fleming. Geologic Strata 111, Fiber Art, by Martha Turner, is an exquisitely executed, small treasure, created meticulously with fabric. Master 'Dark Sky,' photographer Dany Tomas's shows several works featuring his unique "light painting," technique.

This is an on going show throughout the summer with new works added frequently to replace sold artworks.

Borrego Springs regular art show season winds to a close now with the Summer Show. We all look forward to the new Season in October. Congratulations to all the Directors, Curators and volunteer's that made this season absolutely fabulous.
