Salton Sea – Dog Attack Update

The man mauled to death by pit bulls near the Salton Sea has been identified as Emilio Rios, a 65-year-old resident of North Shore, according to coroner’s officials.
Deputies arrived to find Rios dead in the front yard of his home, sheriff’s spokesman Armando Munoz said. A woman who was also mauled at the scene, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Her name is yet to be released.
Deputies and Riverside County Animal Control officers found the dogs, believed to be pit bulls, at a local residence, Munoz said. One of the dogs was extremely aggressive and had to be tranquilized, after which both animals were captured and taken to an Animal Services facility, where they remain in quarantine.
