Palm Springs has entered into final contract negotiations with SolarCity and SunEdison to install Solar panels at eight sites around the city. SolarCity will install Solar panels at the city’s wastewater treatment plant and the Sunrise Plaza complex. SunEdison will install Solar panels at the convention center, the downtown parking structure, Demuth Park, the Desert Highland Unity Center, the animal shelter on East Mesquite and the fire station at Indian Canyon and Amado. By installing Solar panels at these sites, Palm Springs anticipates saving close to $25 million over the next 25 years. Last week the city council voted unanimously to enter final negotiations with SolarCity and SunEdison and systems at all eight sites are expected to come online by the end of 2016.
