Hal at an air show at the Minden-Tahoe Airport in August 2015. He is shown sitting in front of a US Navy N3N-3 basic flight trainer. It is, of course, a bi-plane,a "taildragger". He flew them in late 1942/1943, while stationed at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas for his Naval Air Cadets training.
