On March 27, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) released its 2023 Giving Impact Snapshot, providing a year in review of its shareholder funded charitable investments and employee volunteerism efforts within the communities of San Diego and South Orange County region.

SDG&E nearly doubled its charitable investments compared to 2022 with a total of over $16 million granted to community-based nonprofit organizations. Nearly 99% of these investments directly benefitted diverse and underserved communities, including low-income populations, communities of concern, seniors, and military.

Last year, SDG&E also launched its largest single-year charitable initiative in company history – the $10 million Community Assistance Fund. Focusing on the regional challenges of housing stability and food insecurity, the Community Assistance Fund provided transformational grants and resources to 21 community-based nonprofit organizations to expand essential services they provide to the community.

Other charitable investments centered around SDG&E’s four strategic giving initiatives of climate action, emergency preparedness, inspiring future leaders (K-16 STEM education) and economic prosperity. To help address energy affordability, SDG&E also provided $5 million in shareholder funds to United Way of San Diego, providing bill assistance to customers through the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program.

“Our charitable investments create long-lasting positive impact for our communities,” said SDG&E Director of Community Relations Kazeem Omidiji.

In addition to the charitable initiatives from the company, SDG&E employees were proud to give back their time and treasure to the communities where they live and serve. Over 2,300 employees volunteered in the region last year logging in more than 5,000 total volunteer hours.

“SDG&E has fostered a culture where employees are eager and willing to be a part of the change that is needed in our communities,” said Omidiji.

SDG&E has invested $107 million in shareholder funds over the last 10 years within the community. An overview of SDG&E’s charitable giving and employee volunteerism can be found in the latest edition of the 2023 Giving Impact Snapshot.
