Borrego Sun - Since 1949

Visitors from around the country and the world continue to trickle into the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park to take a glimpse and enjoy the wildflower bloom.

The bloom has been growing with rainfall making its way to Borrego and warmer weather. But with that, it also means the caterpillars are out, enjoying the flowers too.

Here is some updated information, courtesy of the Anza-Borrego Foundation:

Current Flower Locations:

Flowers are still blooming along Henderson Canyon Road, in the lower sandy dune portions of Coyote Canyon, Arroyo Salado and in the southern portion of the state park along Highway S2 southeast of Agua Caliente County Park. Larger patches of sand verbena are also blooming near Thimble Trash / Palo Verde Wash North of highway S-22. Additionally, areas near June Wash moving northeast toward Fish Creek and Arroyo Tapiado are beginning to show the early bloomers like primrose, phacelia, and wooly sunflower.

Porta Potty Information:

To help accommodate our visitors and shoppers, porta-potties (standard and ADA) and hand wash stations have been placed in the west and east ends of the gravel lot, between Jilberto’s and The Mall parking lot. These will be cleaned daily and will be in place for through the end of March. A big thank you to the Mall owners, Jim & Anne Wermers, who pledged to cover the cost! Three additional porta-potties (standard and ADA) and a hand wash station were placed in the gravel lot, between Jilberto’s and The Mall parking lot. The Park also added porta-potties on Henderson Canyon Rd. near the wildflower fields.

Tips to Share to Help Protect Our Wildflowers:

Help protect the wildflowers and stay safe while viewing. Please do not stop in the road. Pull over to the side of the road to view the wildflowers wildlife and to take photos. Park within one vehicle length of the road and do not park on any vegetation. Leave no trace and take only memories. Please leave the wildflowers for others to enjoy. Give wildlife their distance and allow them access to water.
