Big Bright Futures: Time to Grow and Glow

With the sun beginning its descent behind Indian Head, 32 seniors marched onto the football field for the last time as students of Borrego Springs High School. Parents, family members, friends, and members of the community cheered, squeezed those air horns and cameras left-to-right flashed for this big moment.

Tears were shed, laughs were shared, and memories were reflected on, as June 15 marked the start of a new journey for our graduates.

Career Tech Ed (CTE) Teacher Francisco "Pancho" Ramirez and Principal Victoria Baay each shared heartfelt moments of the class, many of whom they've known and taught since they were in elementary school.

Principal Baay reminded the graduates to not let them being from a small school or a small town be seen as a disadvantage or be a setback, but instead to see it as a resource and a powerful support system as they continue to embark on their new journey after tonight.

Encouraging words were also shared by Superintendent Dr. Mark Stevens and Vice Principal Ryan Wikert, as they expressed how lucky they have been to be able to teach and guide these young individuals.

Salutatorian Shantell Fuentes and Valedictorian Jimena Ochoa shared their speeches, as they showed gratitude for the care given by school staff, teachers, coaches and counselors over the years. They also gave their appreciation to the community for their helping hands and encouragement to get them where they are today.

Many of our graduating students will be attending college to further their education, whether it be local or exploring other parts of the country, or attending vocational school, while many will go into the workforce.

Congratulations to the class of 2023 and best wishes to you all!
