Motorcycle Accident

Chuck Blandy, 66, a well-known fixture of Borrego Springs was found lifeless near the 1100 block of Tilting T Drive, between the Borrego Springs and Club Circle resorts on Dec. 23 at around 8:15 a.m.

He went riding on a 2003 Suzuki Enduro motorcycle borrowed from a friend at around 4 p.m. Dec. 22, expecting to be gone for about 30 minutes. When he did not return, his wife raised the alarm with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

A search then ensued by residents of Borrego, a search and rescue by a helicopter with heat sensor capability was also sent out in search of Blandy. Residents also worked with local establishments, checking security cameras and traffic in the area.

The following morning, he was found pinned under the motorcycle in a ditch by employees of the Borrego Springs Water District, who were checking on wells in the area.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but no other vehicles or parties are believed to be involved, according to the CHP. Authorities said there was no indication of alcohol or drugs involved.

Blandy, a long-time Borrego resident, was known as the plumber to Borrego, having served the town for a number of years.
