The Borrego Village Association has produced in partnership with local organizations and individuals the BorregoExperience.com website to tell the story of Borrego and promote our place-based authenticity to a global audience of travelers. The website showcases the unique businesses, attractions, activities, features and events in Borrego Springs and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park told through the voices of local people. The website informs travelers and promotes the natural, historic, and cultural assets unique to our destination as identified by local stakeholders.

Just a couple of hours drive East from San Diego or Los Angeles, the town of Borrego Springs is nestled in the middle of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Our warm and welcoming community and vast and spectacular State Park offers both a tranquil haven from fast-paced lifestyles and outdoor activities to quicken the heartbeat, including a variety of outdoor experiences from daytime hikes to night sky stargazing, comfortable resorts, RV sites, rustic camping, wildlife and wildflowers, art and culture, and local cuisine. It’s the perfect getaway for people of all ages as there truly is something for everyone in Borrego.

The responsive website, and companion Facebook and Instagram social media platforms, will inspire visitors by helping them learn about our place-based authenticity, provides information about the places to go, things to do, events, festivals, where to eat, drink shop and play. The site promotes the small and medium business, civil society organizations, individuals and the State Park that provide services to our travelers. Including over 100 points of interest and 40 articles BorregoExperience.com tells the story of Borrego’s natural, historic, and cultural assets unique to our destination.

The Borrego Experience website is sponsored by the Borrego Village Association partner organizations who are working together to create and sustain a thriving and attractive community, surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, where residents enjoy a quality lifestyle, prosperous businesses meet community needs, and tourism enhances the character and well-being of our village. This project is made possible by a Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grant from the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors. The website was developed by the San Diego based firm Cook & Schmid.

Since 2018 the Borrego Village Association has been implementing a Geotourism community stakeholder engagement process designed to develop and strengthen destination partnerships to support economic development, celebrate local culture, sustain natural and cultural assets, and enhance the well-being of residents through sustainable tourism management and marketing.

Geotourism is tourism that sustains or enhances the distinctive geographical character of a place – its environment, heritage, aesthetics, culture, and the well-being of its residents.

In addition to creating BorregoExperience.com the Borrego Village association has facilitated a series of Tourism Visioning Workshops, conducted a comprehensive Visitors Survey, developed Sustainable Tourism Strategic Plan, partnered with the National Association for Interpretation (NAI) to conduct Hospitality Skills Training for local residents to become NAI Certified Interpretive Hosts, initiated in the 2019-20 school year with Borrego Springs Unified School District a NAI Certified Interpretive Hosts and Guide program as a for-credit course elective for high school juniors and Seniors, supported the 2019 Super Bloom with planning and sanitation facilities.
