BAI's Two Shows A Big Hit

The Borrego Art Institute gallery walls were filled with various art pieces – from abstract mixed paintings, clay and metal artworks to photographs of local hot spots around town; there was something for every art and non-art lover to enjoy.
On Dec. 7, the BAI held its opening reception for two of its most popular and enjoyable shows, the "Annual Borrego Springs Art Guild Member's Work" and "The Finely Crafted Art Show."
The exhibit showcased many unique pieces, each having its own original story, which visitors enjoyed.
Returning to the show were many artists who love showcasing their work at the BAI gallery year-after-year, and a notable face was Pamela Hiltunen.
Hiltunen submitted her classic and signature 3D piece of The Wizard of the Oz, and a Disney's Haunted Mansion for its 50th birthday celebration. In the Haunted Mansion piece, she added a hint of the Cheshire Cat from her favorite Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland, found in the book.
Hiltunen also described to visitors her new acrylic piece titled, "Bubble Dreams," which tells a little story of her love of Disneyland, and growing up loving the desert.
New to the show was William Alexander, who showcased panoramic photographs he took on his trip abroad to Peru this year.
Alexander described a piece that took him a few hours to capture, as the weather was not quite as cooperative to work with him.
The hors d'oeuvres were served and prepared by Kesling's Kitchen, and as always, were quickly consumed each time they came out.
The Borrego buffalo wings and stilton, along with corn chowder soup in a glass were enjoyed by all.
The artwork will be on display until Dec. 29, and are available for purchase.
The next opening reception at the BAI will be 'A Show of Contemporary Latin American Art' Jan. 4, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The reception is free to BAI members. Non-members will be charged $5 per person for entry prior to 6 p.m.
