What truths do you, personally, hold to be self-evident and how do you protect them? In your earnestness to see justice done, do you also remember that we are a nation of compassion? Are you reminded over and over and over, that the more things change the more they stay the same?

Tyranny is tyranny, after all, and it doesn’t seem to matter much under which flag it runs. I know I have been so angry lately at the vast instances of inhumanity that my stomach actually turns. I am NOT suggesting the way to peace is to roll over and do nothing, or worse, to be indecisive; I am suggesting that real love sometimes involves insight, purpose, backbone, rational thought, and remarkable toughness – a willingness to see that, in certain circumstances, we may be our own worst enemies and an even greater willingness to ask for guidance and act on it.
