Announcing … the West Shores Parks Association. Formed as an adjunct committee to the Salton Community Services Board, the West Shores Parks Association is ready to roll. In an organizational meeting held on Wednesday, September 30, the small group of community members and parents chose John Connelly at its chairperson and Mirna Covarubbias as the Secretary. The purpose of the group is multi-fold, with restoring the playing fields at Desert Shores Park the first goal. The tentative plans include restoration of the existing field, making the soccer field “regulation” size, reinstalling sprinklers, as needed, and installing lights. Long-term plans include restoring the Salton City Park. What is truly exciting about the project is that it is offering all community members the opportunity to help create a meaningful lifestyle for themselves … together they will stand!

The West Shores Parks Association was formed at the suggestion of several community members, some of whom are members of the West Shores Lions Club; the initial effort to form an actual, functioning committee was spear-headed by parent Covarrubias (long a valuable staffer at WSHS) and the WSLC. Please remember that the WSHS Varsity Boys Soccer Team is the current California State Champion for the Southern Region, so providing the sportsters with a reasonable place to practice during non-school hours may be paramount to continued success. Emerging plans also envision parka that are safe and pleasant and in which families may spend time together and in which arts and entertainment may eventually be promoted. YAY!

The project is being co-sponsored by the West Shores Lions Club. All kinds of help is needed -- $$$ (large and small), sweat-equity and brain-power. Anyone with dollars, time or ideas to spare is cordially invited to join in. Contact John Connelly, 760-394-4515, for donation opportunities or information.

PS/ As an adjunct committee of the SCSD Board, the WSPA Committee has acknowledged and accepted all formal provisions of being a public entity, e.g., meetings will be public and will be noticed in advance, etc., … please watch the SCSD community calendar for notices, check at the schools or district office or on these hallowed pages.

High School Sports are up and running. Need an invigorating afternoon or evening? West Shores High School Sports Teams can nearly guarantee some heart-pounding moments! What is super cool, at least for me, is to watch local kids doing so well, having fun, learning valuable life lessons, playing their hearts out while cheering our hearts out, right alongside their friends and families. Friday Night Lights, indeed! We’re proud to be WSHS supporters. Join us. Check the Football and Girls Volleyball schedules on the school’s Facebook page: wshs.cvusd.us/pages/West_Shores_High_School or on MaxPreps.com.

Thanks.
