Celebrating Apple Days has been a tradition for over a hundred years; originally inspired as an end of harvest festival. As part of this year’s Apple Days celebration, on September 26-27, Menghini Winery will feature apple displays, music and dancing, an antique tractor display, children’s games and activities, gold panning demonstrations, a beer and wine garden, food and merchandise vendors, live entertainment, pie-eating contests and of course apple pies. The event runs from 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5.00 for adults, with children 12 and under free of charge.

The 59th Annual October Melodrama “Keeping the Doctor Away” or “Take two apples and see me in the morning,” can be seen at the Julian Town Hall every Friday and Saturday night from Oct. 2-24 at 7:00 p.m. Matinees are offered every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from Oct. 3-25 at 2:00 p.m. (no performances on Sunday, Oct. 4 or Friday and Saturday Oct. 30 or 31.) The Melodrama is always performed by a local volunteer cast with a variety of olio performances between acts. There’s always a villain to boo and a hero to cheer, with audience participation encouraged. The 90 minute shows support the Julian Triangle Club’s efforts to provide scholarships to graduating seniors and other youth groups. Tickets for all shows are $10.00 for adults and teens, and $5.00 for children 4-12.
