Custom metal artwork by local craftsman Ivan Alvarez creates a distinctive new landmark along Palm Canyon Drive.

Yellow Woman Ranch celebrated the unveiling of its new custom metal sign today at 302 Palm Canyon Drive in Borrego Springs. Founder Rossy Sanchez was joined by local craftsman Ivan Alvarez, who created the artwork, for the unveiling of the new entrance feature.

The sign features a metal silhouette of a woman with flowing hair and raised arms, mounted above the Yellow Woman Ranch name on a desert-toned monument. The design reflects the spirit of Yellow Woman Ranch, a welcoming space for wellness, mindfulness, creative workshops, retreats and community gatherings.

Founded by Sanchez, Yellow Woman Ranch is a wellness and community gathering space offering mindfulness programs, creative workshops, retreats and special events. Inspired by her longtime vision of bringing people together, the ranch provides a peaceful desert setting for connection, personal growth and shared experiences.

A Local Connection Behind the Sign

The project began with a connection made more than a year ago. In early 2025, Sanchez contacted longtime Borrego Springs metal artist John Richen about creating a gate similar to one already on the property.

"We heard back from Ivan, met him, and he provided a beautiful rendering, but we never got around to having the gate made," Sanchez explained. "However, when the sign idea came up, I contacted him to see if he was interested and he came through for us."

Alvarez, owner of Alvarez Welding and Design, grew up in Borrego Springs and graduated from Borrego Springs High School in 2017. He spent eight years working as an artisan under Richen, from 2017 through 2025, developing his skills in metalwork and fabrication.

Now operating his own business, Alvarez creates custom metal gates, railings, fire pits, fireplace screens, decorative logos, planters and sculptures. He hopes to continue expanding his work while providing quality craftsmanship to Borrego Springs and surrounding communities.

The completed installation gives Yellow Woman Ranch a recognizable new entrance, adding another example of locally crafted metal artwork to the Borrego Springs landscape.

What began as a conversation about a gate ultimately became a lasting addition to Yellow Woman Ranch, bringing together Sanchez's vision and the craftsmanship of a local artisan.
