About the Borrego Sun
Local news. Community connections. Since 1949.
The Borrego Sun serves Borrego Springs and the surrounding desert community with local news, civic information, community stories, arts coverage, and events.
Founded in 1949, the Sun has documented generations of life in Borrego Springs. Today, we continue that work online, helping residents and visitors stay informed and connected to the people, places, and decisions shaping our community.
Our Ownership and Mission
The Borrego Sun is owned and operated by Ram Media Foundation, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The foundation acquired the publication in 2026 to continue its community role and preserve its future.
Our mission is Strengthening Community Through Media.
We believe Borrego Springs benefits from accessible local news, opportunities for community voices, and a lasting connection to its history.
What We Cover
Our coverage includes local government and public services, schools and youth, community organizations, businesses, arts and culture, the environment, and everyday life in Borrego Springs.
We publish original reporting alongside clearly attributed community submissions, announcements, and historical material. When sharing information from another publication or organization, we identify the source.
Our People
Andrea McKenna serves as Executive Director of Ram Media Foundation and oversees the foundation’s community media work.
The Borrego Sun brings together contributing writers, community members, and local partners. Articles identify their authors or contributing organizations so readers can understand where the information comes from.
How We Are Funded
The Borrego Sun is supported through business and organizational sponsorships, advertising, and charitable contributions to Ram Media Foundation.
This support helps us publish local news and give attention to community organizations and businesses without requiring them to purchase advertising to be considered for editorial coverage.
Financial support does not guarantee coverage or favorable treatment. Sponsors, advertisers, and donors do not control our editorial decisions. Paid advertising and sponsored content are identified so readers can distinguish them from independent editorial coverage.
Our Editorial Standards
Accuracy and Fairness
We check names, dates, quotations, and other factual details before publication. We use interviews, records, direct observations, and other relevant sources to support our reporting.
When a story raises criticism or allegations about a person or organization, we seek their response and provide a reasonable opportunity to comment. If a response is unavailable by publication, we explain that when relevant.
Editing and Attribution
We review stories for accuracy, clarity, context, and attribution. We identify the source of submitted material and credit reporting, photographs, and historical records appropriately.
Opinion and Community Contributions
Opinion columns, editorials, and letters to the editor are labeled. Views expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the Borrego Sun or Ram Media Foundation.
Community submissions may be edited for length, clarity, accuracy, and relevance. Submission does not guarantee publication.
Conflicts of Interest
In a small community, personal and professional connections are common. We disclose relationships that could reasonably affect a reader’s understanding of a story and take steps to keep those relationships from influencing our reporting.
Corrections and Updates
We correct factual errors promptly when they are brought to our attention and verified. Significant corrections include a note explaining what changed. When new information substantially changes a story, we identify the update.
To request a correction, please use our website’s Contact form. Include the article title or link, the information you believe is incorrect, and supporting details.
