Local Media Doesn't Happen on Its Own
Since 1949, Borrego Springs has had a newspaper of its own. Today the Borrego Sun continues in digital form, alongside a public radio station, a student internship program, and an archive that preserves the Valley's history for future generations.
Ram Media Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity. We have no paywall and no corporate parent. We rely on neighbors, visitors, and friends of Borrego who believe a small town deserves trustworthy news and a strong voice.

Community RadioBrings KPBS and NPR news, public affairs, and educational programming to the Borrego Valley by radio and online. Your support keeps the signal on the air.
Borrego Sun & Archive
Regional NewsLocal news, events, history, and community storytelling, plus the Borrego Sun Archive, a digital collection preserving the Valley's history.
Student Internships
Youth MediaStudents work alongside a mentor for eight weeks, learning to write, report, and help preserve the archive, with their work published by the Borrego Sun.

Gifts of appreciated, publicly traded securities are a tax-smart way to give. Donating shares directly, rather than selling them first, may help you avoid capital gains tax and deduct the full market value of shares held more than one year.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Ram Media Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 93-3657483). Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. View our IRS determination letter.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes. Every donor receives a written acknowledgment. For non-cash gifts, the receipt describes the property received. Per IRS rules, the charity does not assign a dollar value to donated property.
I'm donating property worth more than $500. What do I need?
You may need to file IRS Form 8283 with your tax return, and gifts over $5,000 generally require a qualified appraisal (publicly traded stock is an exception). We're happy to sign the donee section of Form 8283 when required.
Can I direct my gift to a specific program?
Yes. Note your preference (KRAM, the Borrego Sun, the Archive, or the student internship program) with your gift, or contact us.
Should I talk to my tax advisor?
For gifts of stock, real estate, vehicles, and collectibles, we recommend speaking with your tax or financial advisor about how a gift fits your situation.
