Film Festival Approaches

The 2020 Borrego Springs Film Festival is coming soon, January 16 – 20. This is year seven, and it’s dubbed as “Lucky Number 7,” with the motto as a homage to the supportive community.

We are truly lucky to have Borregans attending year-after-year, watching these incredible works of cinema, meeting filmmakers, and having them meet you. All of it is a blessing that has made the BSFF one of the best film festivals in the world. FilmFreeway.com now lists the Festival as a top 100 film festival, among the thousands upon thousands of festival events all over the world.

In 2020, our biggest and newest change is that we’ll be offering screenings and filmmaking lectures at the Library. These sessions are free to the public. The panelist will be presenting screenings of their films in the library’s state-of-the-art media auditorium. We want to showcase cinema to all of you that have been curious about the festival, but haven’t been able to check it out yet. Come on by the Library for free and see a little slice of what the BSFF offers.

A description of all the events, films, and PASS purchasing information can be found at borregospringsfilmfestival.org. The schedule can also be found on the back of the Dec. 12 issue of the Borrego Sun.

The ALL-FESTIVAL-PASS is $135, which is admission to all films, VIP areas, and catered parties. This includes our fun, and a little bit wild, awards ceremony. We’re taking the awards ceremony up a notch this year. You’ll definitely want to be a part of it! You can also buy individual $10 BLOCK-PASSES for screenings. PASSES sell quickly, so don’t delay. If you do miss out on buying a PASS, don’t give up. During the event we also sell box-office-tickets for unclaimed seats. The theater fills up fast though! Still, we encourage you to buy a PASS. It helps support the festival and allows us to keep bringing this special event to you.

As always, the Monday screenings are free to the public. This season, we are featuring a series of short-doc-films called “Borrego Springs Life,” our cinema love-letter to the wonderful people that make our community so special, held on Monday.

The BSFF keeps getting better, and 2020 is no exception. We had 10 times as many submissions this year as we’ve had in the past. The 2020 BSFF program is spectacular and loaded with films that will inspire, enchant, and leave you amazed. Join the magic!
