Meet Vanda: The Borrego Sun's New Intern

Editor's note: The Borrego Sun welcomes Vanda Ratkay, a Hungarian exchange student at Borrego Springs High School, as its newest intern. Vanda is working with Kim Wyatt, an instructor and former journalist.

Moving to the other side of the world at 17? That was me, exactly two and a half months ago.

My name is Vanda Ratkay, and I'm a Hungarian exchange student at Borrego Springs High School.

If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be curious. In my family, asking questions all the time wasn't seen as an annoying habit. It was a sign of a thirst for knowledge. Why do we dream? How does gravity work? Where do missing socks go? I never stopped wondering.

That curiosity brought me here. After years of preparing, my dream came true when I received a fully funded scholarship to spend a year in the United States.

Traveling has always been one of my great passions. What better way to get to know the world than to move into a completely different culture? During my exchange, I hope to experience as much as I can, and writing for the newspaper is one of the opportunities I'm most excited about.

Now, 6,200 miles (10,000 km) from home, my curiosity has led me to another new adventure: journalism.

Yellow Woman Ranch's Fall Wellness Faire invites visitors to explore holistic practices, discover natural products, and enjoy a day of connection in the desert. Thanksgiving is a time for gathering, gratitude, and, quite often, overindulgence. On Saturday, November 28, Yellow Woman Ranch in Borrego Springs invites visitors to spend the day nourishing themselves in a different way, exploring an eclectic mix of holistic practices, natural products, and experiences designed to promote well-being. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Fall Wellness Faire will bring together holistic practitioners, wellness enthusiasts, and natural product vendors for a day of discovery, connection, and feeling good. Visitors can explore a variety of offerings, including acupuncture and cupping, Reiki, vibrational sound healing, Zero Balance, Bio-Energetic Scanning, mini facials, and Somatic Movement. The day will also feature sound baths, Shamanic Journeying, tarot readings, and traditional Chinese mind-body practices. Beyond the individual practices and experiences, guests can browse crystals, herbal products, and other natural offerings, enjoy wholesome foods, meet practitioners, and discover approaches to wellness they may not have encountered before. “I started these Wellness Faires to create awareness about the different ways we can heal and feel good when we get in touch with our bodies and our minds,” says Rossy Sanchez, creator of Yellow Woman Ranch. “I so enjoy seeing the happy faces as people leave the event.” Set against the dramatic beauty of the Anza-Borrego Desert, Yellow Woman Ranch offers an inviting setting where visitors can explore at their own pace, connect with others, and perhaps discover something new about themselves. The Fall Wellness Faire takes place Saturday, November 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Yellow Woman Ranch, 302 Palm Canyon Drive, Borrego Springs, California. Admission is $20. Private sessions are available at additional cost, with pricing varying by practitioner. For more information and to explore the day's offerings, visit www.yellowwomanranch.com/events.
