Plans are being finalized for the construction of two major pipeline projects on Borrego Springs Rd and in the Sun Gold development. Total project cost is estimated to be $3.4 M which will be fully funded through a Direct Congressional Appropriation sponsored by Representative Issa and Senator Padilla.
This program typically requires a 20% local agency match. BWD staff, especially Diana Del Bono, was successful in applying for a waiver of the match which saved BWD approximately $600,000. The program is administered thru the USEPA, BWDs Program Manager Elizabeth Borowiec has been extremely helpful and a big part of this Project success. Funds are scheduled to arrive in November or December 2024.
The Borrego Springs pipeline will run from Walking H to Rango in the shoulder of the road, outside the pavement. Enhanced fire fighting capabilities will occur following installation of modern fire hydrants with the appropriate spacing. The Sun Gold pipeline project will replace all of the old piping, water services and hydrants in the neighborhood.
BWD District Engineer, Carlos Beltran of Dynamic Engineering, will be presenting the plans, specifications and bid documents to the BWD Board in November or December 2024. The Projects are expected to start in spring 2024 and take an estimated six months for completion.
