Last updated 7/30/2024 at 10:24am
In conformance with Proposition 218 requirements, on July 27th, 2021, the Borrego Water District Board conducted and approved a rate adjustment and increase for its water and wastewater service charges for the next five fiscal years. These adjustments ensure water and sewer operations, replacement of aging infrastructure and the beginning of a reserve account for water rights acquisition. A 5% increase in water rates was approved and sewer rates will increase 4%. The adjustments to rates will be effective July 1, 2024. For those customers connected to BWD sewer collection system, rates will be increasing by 4%. Link to the 218 rate study page - https://borregowd.org/?page_id=1888
AMI coming to Borrego Springs:
Following completion of a 100 meter Pilot, Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) will be rolled out to the remaining BWD. Installation of AMI meters will be installed on the remaining 2,000 existing water meters in Borrego Springs this September. AMI provides for remote collection of water use data in real time, eliminates manual reading and identifies virtually any leak soon after they start (toilets, pipe bursts, etc.). AMI systems also include user friendly software to view up to date water usage and set notifications for unusual water use patterns.
You do not need to be present for installation. The installation will take about 30 minutes and the home’s water usage may be interrupted for up to 15 minutes. If the water system is in use at the time of installation, the contractor, Metron-Farnier, will try to notify the residents before water flow is interrupted.
