Accident Near Salton Sea

On Wednesday Dec. 29 at around 10:10 p.m., a Hispanic 55-year-old man from Bell Gardens was driving a 1992 Nissan Sentra northbound on State Route 86 when his vehicle broke down.
The man parked his car on the right shoulder of the road, exited, and walked out into the darkness without a flashlight or reflective clothing. He walked into the middle of lanes, when 54-year-old Carmen Zepeda was driving her 2016 Ford Explorer with her granddaughter in a car seat.
The 55-year-old man was struck by the left front of Zepeda's Ford leading him to land on the left shoulder. The man sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
Zepeda sustained minor injuries and authorities determined that she was not under the influence during the investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
The collision is currently under investigation.
