The National Weather Service San Diego has issued a wind advisory that is expected to peak in intensity on Thursday Dec. 7, and continue to Saturday Dec. 9.

A prolonged intense Santa Ana wind event will create extreme fire danger. Very dry air, an unusually dry Fall 2017, and strong Santa Ana wind (offshore flow) will create these conditions. Borrego Springs is also under severe weather watch with fire weather warnings.

Borrego Springs area is projected to reach at least 30 mph from the northeast to east. The winds in Julian are expected to be from 70 – 90 mph.

The NWS San Diego advises everyone to take precautions for the strong Santa Ana winds. They advise to secure loose objects, be aware of downed tree branches and power lines when driving, and high profile vehicles should slow down and find an alternative routes if possible. All should avoid open flames or sparks, properly discard cigarettes and obey burn bans.
