Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count
Last updated 12/7/2017 at 4:09pm
Sunday Dec. 17, there will be the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count for Borrego Springs.
"Most of the hundreds of Audubon CBCs throughout the country (including ours) begin at dawn with birders counting birds in the Borrego Valley until 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m., followed by the "compilation" meeting at Steele/Burnand, where the teams compile and report their findings.
Traditionally, all across the USA, a chili luncheon is offered (often by local Audubon Societies) to the tired, cold and hungry CBC birders. We have recently learned that supplies and utensils -- and sometimes the food! -- has been paid for by Bob. This must be stopped, and you can help!
A number of volunteers have resolved that Bob should not have to worry about the luncheon portion of the CBC. We are requesting your help by supplying a little something for the hungry bird counters -- like a crock pot of chili, a potluck-type main dish, a batch of corn bread or some dessert treats" – Terry Hunefeld
You are invited to join us in eating lunch and listening in on our discussion of birds seen in Borrego Valley and the state park that morning. It's a ton of fun with great people and exciting to hear about the many birds discovered "hot off the press" as the reports roll in.
Food may be delivered to the Steele Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Reserve at the west end of Tilting T Drive between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. that day.
For more information, or if you would like to help, email Holly Barnes at firstname.lastname@example.org or give her a ring at 360-220-2345.
If you can contribute but are unable to make the delivery, let Holly know and we will attempt to make pickup arrangements.
