Two Narcotic-Related Arrests in Under an Hour

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 86 checkpoint arrested a man and a woman in two separate events for smuggling drugs, in less than an hour of each other.
The first incident occurred Thursday Oct. 19 at around 9:15 a.m., when a 21-year-old woman in a Crusero/International California bus approached the checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the vehicle.
At secondary inspection, the Border Patrol canine alerted the agents to the top of the luggage compartment near a specific seat. Agents interviewed the owner of the seat and discovered narcotics strapped to the woman's abdomen.
Agents examined the contents of the packages, which tested positive for heroin.
The total weight of the heroin was 2.52 pounds with an estimated street value of $27,720.
Border Patrol agents identified the woman as a United States Citizen. Agents turned the her over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the narcotics for further investigation.
The second incident occurred 30 minutes later at around 9:45 a.m., when a 21-year-old man approached the same checkpoint in a 2005 red Mini Cooper. Agents sent the man to a secondary inspection for further examination.
At secondary inspection, a Border Patrol canine alerted the agents to the back seat of the vehicle, where they discovered 17 bundles hidden in the gas tank.
The contents tested positive for methamphetamine.
The total weight of the methamphetamine was 19.18 pounds with an estimated street value of $67,130
The man was identified as a United States Citizen. Agents turned the man over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the vehicle and narcotics for further investigation.
Since fiscal year 2017, which began Aug. 31, El Centro Sector has seized more than 1,880 pounds of methamphetamine and 140 pounds of heroin.
