At around 12:15 p.m., a fire engulfed a structure and spread over 2.5 brush acres Oct. 23 near Skyway Drive and Montezuma Valley Road in Ranchita.

With the joint forces of Cal Fire, San Diego County Fire, and United States Corps Service, the units had two aircrafts, two tankers, one air attack, two helicopters, two dousers, and two water tenders to douse the fire.

The blaze was contained and controlled at around 6:00 p.m., according to Ranchita Fire Department Captain Rick Johnson.

The type of structure burned has not yet been determined, according to Johnson.

The cause of the blaze, which resulted in no reported injuries, was under investigation. It burned near the site of a blaze that charred 25 open acres after being inadvertently sparked by target shooters on the afternoon of Oct. 15.
