Border Patrol – $100K In Drugs Seized

El Centro Sector Border Patrol Agents assigned to Highway 86 and Highway 111 checkpoints arrested two men Tuesday Oct. 24, in two separate incidents for smuggling narcotics.

The first incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m., when a 67-year-old man approached the Highway 86 checkpoint in a 1997 white Chevrolet S-10 truck. He was referred to a secondary inspection, where agents discovered 22 packages hidden inside the gas tank.

Agents examined the contents of the package, which tested positive for methamphetamine.

The total weight of the methamphetamine was 25.96 pounds and an estimated street value of $90,877.

The man was identified as a Mexican citizen, and he, along with the vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.

The second incident occurred at around 3:40 p.m., when a 51-year-old man approached the Highway 111 checkpoint in a 2004 gray Saturn Ion.

He was referred to a secondary inspection, where agents conducted a pat down to the passenger, and discovered two packages strapped to the man's upper thighs.

Agents examined the contents of the packages, which tested positive for methamphetamine.

The total weight of the methamphetamine was 2.23 pounds with an estimated street value of $7, 805.

The man, a United States citizen, along with the narcotics, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
