El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint arrested a 20-year-old woman suspected of smuggling heroin Friday.

The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m., when a Greyhound bus pulled into the Highway 86 checkpoint for inspection.

At secondary inspection, a border patrol agent noticed a woman carrying something around her midsection and upon further investigation, agents discovered she was harboring a vacuum-sealed package.

Agents examined the contents of the packages, which tested positive for heroin.

The total weight of the heroin was 3.48 pounds with an estimated street value of $38,280.

Border Patrol agents identified the woman as a United States Citizen. Agents turned the woman over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the vehicle and narcotics for further investigation.

Since 2017, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have seized more than 143 pounds of heroin.
