DUI Causes Salton Sea Death

The driver of a vehicle that crashed, resulting in the death of a passenger on Friday, May 19, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.
Thongginh Khemphomma, 51, of Laveen, Ariz., was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra west on I-10 east of Dillon Road in Desert Center, a news release said. About 7:20 a.m., the car veered to the left, into the center divider, over an embankment and overturned.
The female passenger, Sim Khemphomma, 73, of Mountain Lake, Minn. was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. Thongginh Khemphomma was hospitalized at Desert Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
He will be booked into the Indio Jail when he is released from the hospital, the CHP said.
