Full Weekend Closures for State Route 78

Last updated 5/6/2017 at 8:46am

Caltrans construction crews will fully close State Route 78 (SR-78) from Weekend Villa Road to Indian Oaks Road, between Ramona and Escondido, for up to four consecutive weekends.

The first weekend closure will begin Friday, April 21, at 7 p.m., and will end Monday, April 24, at 5 a.m.

There will be no through-traffic allowed on SR-78 Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday, with the road staying closed until Monday morning.

"It is a full closure with a detour in place," said Steve Shultz, Caltrans public information officer. "It's an emergency project to make sure that the road is stabilized."

The closures are needed to accommodate some very large equipment that will allow crews to construct a retaining wall and stabilize the slope on the north side of the highway.

The detour will extend from Cloverdale Road/San Pasqual Road to Main Street/State Route 67 (SR-67). Eastbound motorists will be detoured south on Cloverdale Road/San Pasqual Road, south on Bear Valley Parkway/Via Rancho Parkway, south on Interstate 15, east on Scripps Poway Parkway and north on SR-67 to SR-78. Westbound motorists will follow the same detour in the opposite direction.

Travel between Weekend Villa Road and SR-67/Main Street will not be impacted.
