El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 86 checkpoint, arrested a woman suspected of drug smuggling after discovering packages of methamphetamine hidden in the rear bumper of her vehicle.

The incident occurred on Sunday Feb. 21, when the 33-year-old woman approached the checkpoint driving a white 2003 Chevrolet Cadillac CTS.

Following a secondary inspection area for a closer examination, a Border Patrol detection canine alerted to the vehicle and after an intensive search, agents discovered 21 vacuum sealed bundles of methamphetamine with a combined weight of 26.67 pounds and an estimated street value of $266,700.

"This seizure is an example of the great work of the men and women of the El Centro Sector," said Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott. "Our community is a safer place because of the work these brave men and women carry out daily."

The woman, a United States citizen, the vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
