The Aedes mosquito, responsible for the Zika virus is very difficult to get rid of it. Although it hasn't reached the desert areas yet, Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control are working to stop the possible spread.

That's why they're being proactive and taking steps to keep the pest away before it's too late.

"Our district is currently setting traps throughout the valley from Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs all the way down to Coachella and Mecca," said biologist Melissa Snelling.

The traps being used, specifically target the Aedes mosquito which hunt for blood during the day. Nurseries and RV parks are being targeted due to the risk of plants being brought in to the area on plants.
