San Diego County Phone Scam

Last updated 1/28/2016 at 9:31am

The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office is warning residents of a current phone scam being carried out by callers identifying themselves as a bank employee.

In the scam, the callers identify themselves as employees of Bank of America, or B of A, then they ask for your account number and other details. Sometimes they leave a phone message with a callback number and answer the phone as an employee in “financial services.”

If you or someone you know has received a phone call and provided information to the caller, contact your bank immediately and the various credit bureaus to place a freeze on your credit account.

What to do if you get one of these calls:

-Just hang up.

-Never provide any personal or confidential information over the phone to someone who initiates contact with you.

-If in doubt, call the official number of your bank or the institution the person claims to be calling from rather than a number they have provided.
