Mecca - Student Robbed

A 17-year-old male student of Desert Mirage High School was robbed of his school-issued iPad while walking to the bus stop on Thursday Oct. 22, 2015, by a Los Angeles area gang member, deputies from the Sheriff's Thermal Station have reported. The suspect, later identified as Jose Luis Frausto, age 27, threatened to shoot the student during the robbery.

Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District deputy located Frausto driving in the 91000 block of 5th Street, Mecca, and took him into custody without incident. The vehicle Frausto was driving was reported stolen from the city of El Monte and contained property belonging to the victim however the iPad was not recovered.

Frausto was booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio for strong-armed robbery and vehicle theft.
