Borrego Springs - Nightfall Star Party

Participants of this year's Nightfall event had the perfect location to view the unusual events carrying out above California's skyline Saturday Nov. 9.

Established in 1993 by the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference, this year's Nightfall star party was held at the Palm Canyon Hotel. The location is unique among star parties due to it taking place at a desert resort that creates a dark, red-light-only environment throughout the hotel property and RV park for at least three nights.

Borrego Sun's editor, Ellen Fitzpatrick was proud to accept the award on behalf of the Borrego Sun for being a participating business in the Dark Sky Community. Coldwell Banker and Big Horn Fudge were also presented awards at the event.

All across Borrego Springs, the skies are beautifully dark, yet there's a hardware store, grocery store, and restaurants just down the street. As only the 2nd location to be designated an International Dark Sky Community (IDSC) by the International Dark-Sky Association, Borrego Springs' has committed to adhere to stringent standards that protect the natural night sky and ensure the continuation of this protection through community directives.
