Tex Wash Bridge Opens Early

Last updated 9/26/2015 at 9:50am

Interstate 10 near Desert Center opened Thursday, Sept. 24 in the afternoon signalling the reopening of the Tex Wash Bridge. After a two-month closure which saw crews working 24-hours-a-day to rebuild the bridge after its partial collapse during a severe July 19 rainstorm, Thursday’s reopening came a week earlier than originally planned.

With both lanes of the new eastbound bridge opened by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, Westbound lanes of I-10 will be restored to two lanes by Friday. Intermittent 10-minute traffic breaks will be required to remove the temporary divider and re-stripe the road between 4:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

“We get our projections,” Tyeisha Prunty, spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation said, in reference to the change in date. “But it’s really been the consistency of the construction crews.”
