Aerobatics are flight paths putting pilots and their aircraft in unusual altitudes, and often requiring rotations, dips and loops. These unusual manuevers are used in air-shows, dog fights and graded professional competitions. These flight patterns are not used for travel. Exceptional skill and experience are required of the pilots participating in these competitions. October 8 - 10  the San Diego Hammerheads and the Borrego Springs Valley airport will host the Akrofest. The second of two annual competitions sponsored by the San Diego Aerobatic Club.

The Borrego Springs  airport is  a county owned  public airport. It is one of the most spectator friendly venues to watch this unusual free event. Assagio's Restaurant is adjacent to airport and has a very comfortable outdoor viewing patio.

The first Sundowner of the season will be Friday, Oct. 9 from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Borrego Valley Airport Pilot House, 1815 Palm Canyon Drive, directly across the road from the airport. Hosts Gabriel and Diana Wisdom, along with the Chamber of Commerce, welcome the community for gourmet baked potatoes with all the fixings while you enjoy music by Izon Eden. Raffles will be available, along with a no-host bar. The Hammerheads are in town this weekend and will stage a free airshow at 5:00 p.m. Chamber members enter free, non-members pay $10. Includes food.
