Climate Change Bill Compromised By Big Oil

Oil companies campaigned with intense opposition to California’s climate change bill (SB 350). On Wednesday the provision calling for a 50 percent cut in petroleum use by 2030 was removed from the bill after Governor Brown failed to gain the needed support. “We reached for something grand but in the end, we could not cut through the multimillion- dollar smokescreen,” said Senate leader Kevin de Leon, the author of the legislation. “Oil has won the skirmish,” Brown said at a Capitol news conference, “but they’ve lost the bigger battle because I am more determined than ever.”
