Imperial Irrigation District Expects to Build Large Battery System

By the end of next year Imperial Irrigation District expects to have one of the largest battery storage systems in the western United States built and operating. The $38 million lithium ion battery system will keep the grid operating smoothly, be able to store 30 megawatts of power and deliver approximately 20 megawatts to the grid. The battery system will be capable of powering 20,000 homes and help smooth the flow of electricity from renewable resources.
