Two Teens Use Drones For Smuggling Drugs From Mexico

Two young El Centro men, Jonathan Elias, 18, and Brayan Valle, 19, pleaded guilty Tuesday in San Diego federal court to possession of heroin with intent to distribute and aiding and abetting. U.S. Attorney, Laura Duffy, said drug traffickers have thought of every conceivable method to move their drugs over, under, and through the border. “We have found their tunnels, their Cessnas, their ski jets, their pangas and now we have found their drones." In late April, Elias drove Valle to pick up drugs near an agricultural field in Calexico that were smuggled through the use of drones; the defendants then put the drugs in the trunk of their vehicle and were stopped by U.S. Border Patrol agents. The two teens will be sentenced on October 20.
