Last updated 8/19/2015 at 9:46am

The California Department of Food and Agriculture announced on Tuesday that a 93 square mile area of San Diego County has been placed under a Mediterranean fruit fly quarantine after four of the flies were discovered in La Mesa. According to the CDFA the quarantine will protect against an infestation spreading to nearby regions where it could affect California’s food supply. The Medfly can infest over 250 types of vegetables and fruits. Residents can call the state’s toll-free pest hot-line for additional information - (800) 491-1899.
