Dormant grass can be sprayed with a green, organic colorant as a water-saving alternative that has the potential of catching on during California’s continuing years of draught. Painted grass saves water by allowing Bermuda grass to go dormant without irrigation for weeks at a time. This alternative to lush, naturally green grass is beginning to be taken seriously by golf courses, homeowner associations, landscapers and water districts. Golf courses in the desert are said to average up to 1 million gallons of water a day to keep their courses green.
