The Summer Reading Challenge program offered at the Borrego Springs Library came to an end on Thursday, Aug. 6. The program, which began in June, ended with the performance of a ventriloquist. The Free Summer Lunches will end on Friday, Aug. 7.

Joe Gandelman introduced several of his puppet friends to the laughing and cheering crowd of 30 kids. Gandelman changed personas as he interacted with his water-squirting elephant, a green alien, a bear, and a dragon. The kids laughed as Gandelman and his puppets exchanged mumbling conversations and jokes; they raised their hands to participate in the conversation.

Gandelman's performance is one of the many events that the library put on for the kids during the summer. The library also hosted Jewelry Making in June 25, Paleontology Program on July 9, and The National Ranger Day on July 30. The library held an array of different programs and activities targeted at kids of all ages, such as the Chess Camp, Teen Writing Workshop and Mindstorm Robotics, among others.
