The Cutca fire has blackened close to 170 acres of brush in the steep, remote area north of the Palomar Observatory but as of this morning is approximately 50 percent contained, according to authorities.

Although the cause is still unknown, the Forest Service have said that crews expect to have the fire fully contained by midnight Wednesday. 425 firefighters working to extinguish the blaze will continue mopping up in the interior of the fire perimeter Monday morning, and cooler temperatures are expected to assist in the efforts although several hot spots remain in an area filled with critically dry chaparral and other fuels.

Motorists are being advised to slow down and watch out for firefighting equipment and personnel along the roadway.
