A 61-year-old male hiker, George Basanda died on Saturday while hiking on the Bump and Grind Trail in Palm Desert. The temperature was around 100 degrees when firefighters received the medical emergency call. Six incidents this month, two resulting in death, have been provoked by hiking in triple-digit temperatures. Two days earlier, a female hiker had a medical emergency on the same trail. On Monday a 56 year-old Scottish tourist died while hiking with her husband on the South Lykken Trail in Palm Springs in 101 degree heat. CalFire reminds hikers to be aware of the dangers of hiking in high temperatures.
