Flash Flood Meeting

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the UC Irvine Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center hosted a seminar on flash flooding for Park staff, volunteers, UCI staff and interested parties on Tuesday, June 23. The seminar, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., was held at the Steele/Burnand Center classroom. Alex Tardy, Warning Coordination Meteorologist and Skywarn Program Manager for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Weather Service in San Diego gave the presentation. Twenty-seven people were in attendance and topics included: flash flood hydrology modeling, calculating the flash flood potential index and discussion of the weather spotter reporting program. The meeting was coordinated by ABDSP Ranger Steve Bier.
