A hiker lost consciousness and died Tuesday, June 16, while hiking on a trail in the Cedar Creek Falls area of Julian. Someone in the hiking group called 911 and reported the 24 year-old man had fainted. The group apparently had plenty of water but the hiker may have fallen victim to heat exhaustion in the ninety-degree weather. Paramedics and deputies arrived in rescue helicopters and began first aid on the man at approximately 6:00 p.m. according to Sgt. Carlos Medina from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The unresponsive hiker was flown to Ramona for additional medical aid but died before reaching the hospital. The sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Forest Service and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office are conducting an investigation into the incident. The victim’s name has not been released.
