Salton Sea - Odor Advisory

Last updated 5/19/2016 at 9:07am

Odor Advisory has been issued due to Elevated Hydrogen Sulfide Levels near the Salton Sea which will remain in effect until midnight tonight.

Hourly average concentrations of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) peaked last night at 45 parts per billion immediately downwind of the Salton Sea – at a monitor close to the shore, in an area with little population. Concentrations this morning have remained below the state standard of 30 parts per billion. The monitor in Mecca, a more populated community further downwind, has not exceeded the state standard at this time. However, if southeasterly winds continue today, areas in the Coachella Valley may also experience the odors.
