Memorial Service - Salton Sea Advocate

A memorial service celebrating the life of longtime Salton Sea advocate and historian Jennie Kelly, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the North Shore Beach & Yacht Club in Mecca.

Founded of the Salton Sea History Museum Kelly also served as the museum’s director until the time of her death. Having lived close to the Salton Sea for more than 30 years, Kelly spent years carefully collecting material and creating an extensive archive relating to the history of the area.

Following a $3.5 million renovation of the Albert Frey-designed building, the museum moved in to the yacht club in 2010.

Supervisor Roy Wilson encouraged Kelly to start the museum following her time serving on the Riverside County Historical Commission. After battling cancer, Kelly, 66, died Oct. 11 after battling cancer.
