San Diego Supervisors will meet on Jan. 6 at a public hearing to establish authorization for the County to become a groundwater sustainability agency (GSA), giving it jurisdiction over the Borrego Valley groundwater basin (BVGB).

The discussion will be the first issue on the agenda being heard at 9.am in the County Administration Building, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 300 in downtown San Diego.

On Oct. 20,2015, the Borrego Water District (BWD) held a public hearing and approved a resolution to elect to become a GSA over its portion of the BVGB. Jan.6 meeting is for the Board to 1) approve a Resolution for the County to become a GSA over the entire BVGB; 2) authorize the Director, Department of Planning & Development Services to enter into negotiations to develop an agreement with BWD to become a GSA; 3) authorize the Director, Department of Planning & Development Services to apply for and accept grant funds to support implementation of SGMA.
