Interior Sec. Sally Jewell, will announce 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, State and federal officials plans for part one of the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan.

The document will designate clean energy development zones and conservation areas across 10 million acres of California desert, on land overseen by the federal Bureau of Land Management.

Following a draft document, released last year that faced a torrent of criticism from conservation groups and county governments, the paper, which outlines plans for 22.5 million acres of land was revised and split in to two parts. Federal land will now be addressed first and private land later, allowing county governments the opportunity to complete their own planning processes.

The final plan will set the precedent for future conservation efforts in California's deserts.
